MANKATO , MINN. -

A Mankato couple called police after they woke up to find items missing from their living room.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Jacob Drive just after five o'clock Sunday morning. They found no signs of forced entry, but the homeowners told them a large flat screen TV and a laptop were taken.

Mankato Department of Public Safety Commander Dan Schisel, says, "It appears that maybe a door was left unlocked. And again, this is great time to remind everybody. Make sure that when you're going to bed at night or even when you're gone during the daytime that you're securing your doors and windows"

Authorities call this type of incident a 'crime of opportunity' and strongly suggest that people double-check to make sure their property is secure.

The estimated value of the missing items is $1400.
