Prosecutors in Ramsey County are seeking a 30-year prison term for the man convicted of killing his wife and dumping her body in the Mississippi River.
Jeffery Trevino is scheduled to be in court this afternoon for sentencing.
Guidelines call for a maximum 15 years in prison.
His attorney is asking for a 10 and a half year sentence.
In a memo to the court, assistant Ramsey County attorney Andrew Johnson said Kira Steger's family, friends, law enforcement officers and others searched for her body for months in the cold and snow while Trevino knew exactly where it was.
A Ramsey County jury convicted the 39-year-old Trevino of second-degree unintentional murder last month. Steger went missing the night of Feb. 21.
Her body was found in the Mississippi River in May.
