Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has spared two turkeys named Carmel and Apple as part of the annual Thanksgiving pardon.
Branstad granted the reprieve during a ceremony at Terrace Hill in Des Moines.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and officials with the Iowa Turkey Federation were in attendance.
Carmel, a hen, and Apple, a tom, walked around freely as Branstad delivered the pardon.
They will be sent to Living History Farms in Urbandale.
