Judge Finds B.E. County Board in Contempt Over Attorney Pay

Posted: Updated:

A judge finds the Blue Earth County Board in contempt of court in its ongoing pay dispute with county attorneys.

In his ruling issued , Judge Robert D. Walker found that board members were in contempt after an earlier ruling to file a new budget with higher salaries for assistant county attorneys went unfulfilled.

Back in September a judge sent the budget matter back to the board to readjust the salaries.

But the board instead decided to take the matter to the Court of Appeals.

In his ruling today, Judge Walker stated in part that the board filed its motion to delay the ruling on November 20th... nine days after the deadline set for adjusting the salaries, and six days after the court ordered them to show cause for non–compliance.

Today's ruling gives the county board until February 15th to comply with the initial court order to adjust salaries and file the new budget with the court.

It also denied the board's request to stay the enforcement of the ruling.
