A long-awaited addition to the Mankato community. The Salvation Army has debuted a women's shelter.
The shelter now has the capacity for 13 women, but can add more as needed. Spokespeople say it's been a long time coming.
Captain Mike Parker with the Salvation Army in Mankato says, "It's a time that we can invest in people's lives and make a difference and help them in a time when they're in great need. So it does happen, it doesn't happen every day, but it does happen and people will at least have a place to go during the most difficult months in Mankato."
The shelter is located at 500 Riverfront Drive and is open seasonally now until March from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
