MANKATO, Minn. -

That heavy wet snow is now rock hard with the colder temperatures.

Captain Rich Murry of the Blue Earth County Justice department and he says it's been a few years since he has seen a blizzard this bad.

Due to last night's weather conditions many residents are now literally plowing their way out of the aftermath. According to the Blue Earth County sheriffs department, the weather was so severe that around 23 people had to stay over-night at the Lake Crystal fire hall because highway 60 was completely shut down.

Captain Rich Murry says, "Once the snow started flying yesterday, we responded to a report of 39 to 40 cars in the ditch, off the roadway. We had a busy night, we had some medicals and such we had a little difficulty getting to, but thankfully the county plows helped us out with that."

Captain Murry says if you absolutely must travel during blizzard-like conditions; take an emergency travel kit with you.
