MANKATO, Minn. -

Though Christmas is months away, an 80-foot Christmas tree has been selected from the state of Minnesota to be sent to the capitol.

Along its route to D.C. the tannenbaum will make many stops where gifts will be given to city officials.

Mankato had three businesses contribute gifts: Fine Impressions, Angie's Kettlecorn, and Vetter Stone.

Vetter Stone will send small cut-outs of stone in the shape of Minnesota.

Anna Thill, the President of Visit Mankato, says, "We're leaving a trail of Minnesota. Could a little Vetter Stone end up on the President's desk? I don't know, I'm not sure, but it could end up on somebody's desk along the way."

This is also the 50th anniversary of the annual national tree lighting at the White House.
