Mankato Looking To Add Sport Facilities

Posted: Updated:
Community members are discussing the possibility of adding more Mankato sports facilities.

The city is considering putting an extension on the existing sales tax in order to fund more recreational facilities.

Representatives from different sports met today, explaining the issues concerning space and scheduling.

Organizers are trying to gauge which areas have the biggest needs.

Visit Mankato Sports Commission Director Chris Willaert says, "In terms of a regional hub and everything as far as our population and size and things like that, we have a lot of catching up to do when you start looking at the Rochester, St. Cloud, and areas like that."

The plan is still in the preliminary stages.

The city is currently waiting to see what happens with the sales tax proposal in committee hearings at the state legislature.
