Emergency management is helping people gear up for any severe weather that may hit this spring.

Authorities say weather radios are an important tool in staying safe throughout the season.

The radios are programmed for specific counties and will alert you if any severe weather is about to hit.

Officials say it's nice to have something alert you at any time.

Blue Earth County Emergency Management Director Mike Maurer says, "Any types of additional warning systems you can have are very important. If your phone isn't on, if your phone happens to be on silent, if you don't have your television on, if it's later in the evening when you may be resting, the alert tone on the weather radio will wake you, and let you know what's going on."

Emergency management is also educating people on other ways to stay safe before a storm hits.
