The spread of bird flu across Minnesota could have an impact with 4-H'ers this county fair season.

According to the Minnesota 4-H, shows for the poultry will continue, but they are keeping a close eye on the situation heading into Fair season.

Even though the bird flu could cancel some shows, organizers say it can be an educational moment.

Director of Fair and Animal Science Programs for Center for Youth Development Brad Rugg says, "Last year our educational component was really beefed up along the lines of PEDV, and we had more and more kids demonstrated and went out there and did that educational piece and learned more about that particular virus, and I would expect that the same thing would be true this year.

The group says poultry shows involve more than 3200 kids across the state of Minnesota, and the poultry program has grown around 38 percent in the last 12 years.
