Sen. Klobuchar Introduces SALT Act to Fight Synthetic Drugs

Washington, D.C. -

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar is making another push to battle the growing epidemic of synthetic drugs.

The Democrat spoke on the Senate floor to tell colleagues about a bipartisan bill she's introduced with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa),  Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina).

The Synthetic Abuse and Labeling of Toxic Substances, or SALT Act, would make it easier to prosecute the sale and distribution of new synthetic drugs.

On the Senate floor, Sen. Klobuchar said, "That is the only way to go after these guys who are constantly changing the compound to get around the law."

Current law makes it difficult to prosecute creators and sellers of new synthetic drugs because they are often labeled "not intended for human consumption" even though it's well-known that it's used as a recreational drug.
