Rick Santorum Visits Emmetsburg, Iowa to Talk Renewable Energy

Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum returns to the Hawkeye State.

This time, making a stop in Emmetsburg at the POET Biorefinery Plant.

Even though it's almost four months until the Iowa Caucus, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum took his message to Palo Alto County in Emmetsburg.

Santorum says, "Iowans have to make a very tough decision. There's a lot of candidates and a lot of them have impressive resumes but I think most Iowans want to look you in the eye and see what is this person made of."

But for roughly 30 employees of POET Bio Refinery, it was a chance for them to showcase the impact of ethanol.

POET General Manager Daron Wilson says, "It's an honor to have a presidential candidate come through that believes in what we're doing. His track record shows he believes in what we're doing."

And even though he's trailing in the polls, Santorum says his record on renewable energy will fuel the momentum to capture the Hawkeye state caucus like he did in 2012.

Santorum says, "I think the only way to do that is to actually sit in the diners and the Pizza Ranches and have an opportunity to have them question you one on one."

Santorum says he is the only Republican candidate with a proven record when it comes to renewable fuel standards, or RFS.

That message resonated well with POET General Manager Daron Wilson.

Wilson says, "The RFS is important for us to provide consumers with more market access, another choice of energy and I think everybody wants a choice in what they buy whether that's clothes from a store or energy to put in their car."

Santorum also questioned the Obama administration's commitment to ethanol and the renewable fuel standards.

Santorum recently completed his goal of touring all 99 of Iowa's counties
