The Greater Mankato Area United Way celebrates a historic 2016 campaign.

The group is exceeding its fundraising goal of two million dollars, which has never been accomplished.

Despite failing to hit goals set in the last couple years, the organization tweaked some marketing strategies, leading to the big year.

"The cool thing about Mankato, is it's blowing up, exploding in growth and as she's gone out and found new campaigns to do at new companies that come into the area, they're now finding a way to pick up and fill in the gap that all of a sudden was showing up as some of the bigger companies were being sold," said campaign chair Todd Snell.

The United Way currently partners with 32 non–profit organizations, and is putting the excess money raised back into some of those groups.
