United Way Hosts Annual Equipment Drive
The Greater Mankato Area United Way is collecting gently used sporting goods to help kids who might not have access to the equipment.
The fifth annual event at Scheels is part of the Connecting Kids program.
The event is looking to collect children's sporting goods, dance, music and equipment for other activities.
United Way Community Outreach Director Laura Murray said, "Kids grow so fast, they can go through and see what they have that might not be any use to them anymore, but it's a great way to give back to the community to kids who need it."
Scheels is also providing $5 gift cards for people who donate.
Donations will be accepted through 7 p.m. Friday, but items can still be dropped off at the United Way early next week.
The items donated will be distributed at the Project Community Connect event April 5 and to other area children.
Connecting Kids Coordinator Al Roehm said, "For families just to take so kids have equipment to use. It doesn't mean they have to be involved in an organized activity, but if a kid maybe just wants a baseball glove to play catch with their friends in the neighborhood."
