Four MSU Women to Compete in National Air Race
Four Minnesota State University Mankato students are getting ready to takeoff for the college's first ever all female flight team in 2,500 mile race.
Amy Dahlheimer, Jessica Adams, Allie Rachko, and Lauren Hensley, are part of the team competing the 40th annual Air Race Classic.
Compass Airlines donated $4,000 to the team to make the race possible.
"I told my parents I was going to fly planes so it's been a lifelong dream of mine," Dahlheimer, senior at MSU, said.
The dream of soaring the skies is shared by the four ladies.
"It's just the coolest feeling that you can control something like that and just fly," Adams said.
The race runs from Prescott, Arizona, to Daytona Beach, Florida from June 21-24 and includes 60 teams.
Each team is made up of females between 18-90 years-old.
"It's going to be a lot of work but I think it will really help me grow as a pilot," Rachko said.
Growing in the air individually and as a team.
"When I step in the cockpit, I don't think about anything else other than flying the plane," Hensley said.
