Storms Turn Deadly in Northeastern Minnesota

Posted: Updated:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ One person has died and at least two others have been injured when a powerful storm toppled trees in a northeastern Minnesota forest.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office responded to two separate calls in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in the Superior National Forest about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities say one person was killed and another severely injured on Duncan Lake when the storm knocked over trees. The injured person was rushed to a medical helicopter for transport. The body of the person who died was recovered early Monday due to safety concerns.
Cook County sheriff's officials say a second emergency call about the same time involved a man on Clove Lake who had also been injured by a falling tree. The man was taken to Cook County Northshore Hospital.
