The 7th annual Mankato Marathon is this weekend and the preparations are underway around the downtown area.

Mayo Clinic Health System was dropping off medical supplies to the Public Safety Center this morning.

Barriers, bleachers, and road closure signs are ready to be put in place for the race as well.

Sgt. Justin Newman says with thousands of runners and spectators, they are bringing on extra personnel to make sure the event goes safe and smooth.

Newman says, "We'll have a lot of road closures.  A lot of traffic disruptions.  We'll have officers at all of those intersections, and down around the finish line area, here in the 700 block of South Front Street.  There will be barricades up as well, help keeping the crowd in particular areas...help keeping that flow."

Newman reminds people traveling to Mankato that Riverfront Drive will be closed from Stoltzman to Poplar and Sibley Parkway from 4 a.m. Sunday until approximately 3:30 in the afternoon.
