More than 150 high–school girls came to MSU Mankato to explore careers in STEM today.

STEM– stands for Science, technology, engineering and mathematics. According to the 2011 Census Bureau, women make up only 25–percent of STEM workers. The "Girls Explore STEM" event is to promote appreciation for the STEM fields.

"I think they think it's really cool. Like, they can experience so much and how everything can open your mind to more options in life," Rykiah Welke, a freshman at Irondale High School said. This is the third year MSU has hosted the event, allowing girls from all over the state explore education and career paths in the fields of STEM.
