The Faribault Police Department is putting out a warning after a resident is scammed out of thousands of dollars.
Officers recently responded to a local bank, who reported a customer withdrawing a large amount of money to bail her grandson out of jail.
The victim said they received a call from a jailer demanding bail money. The scammer instructed the victim to hide the cash in a magazine and send it to an address in Michigan. That address was determined to be a vacant building. Authorities say the victim lost $33,000 in the process.
Detectives are working to identify the scammers.Police say it's crucial for residents to be cautious when receiving a phone call like this and call authorities if you're unsure if it's a scam.
