Volunteers brave the cold today to take down the Kiwanis Holiday Lights.

New Years Eve marked the end of the 2017 season for the lights at Mankato's Sibley Park.

Another part of the yearly tradition is to start the take down on New Year's Day.

Dozens of volunteers started to take down the 1.5 million lights in freezing temperatures.

"What's best for us is to for us to get out here and start it and get it done, that way we know it's behind us, because a lot of us who are involved in Kiwanis Holiday lights, this is a year–round thing." Kiwanis Holiday Lights President Scott Wojcik said.

Wojcik said early numbers show record turnout for this year's lights display.
