Keep The Wreath Bright Campaign Wraps Holiday Season

MANKATO, Minn. -

The Mankato Department of Public Safety has wrapped its annual Keep the Wreath Bright Campaign.
Mankato Public Fire responded to three preventable fires this holiday season, which were indicated by three red bulbs on the wreath. The first was related to a faulty dishwasher, the second was plastic food containers catching fire in an oven and the third, careless smoking. While the campaign is over...the threat of fire is not.
"We recommend that people keep any additional heaters at least three feet away from any combustibles, don't let them run when the home is not occupied and never use a cooking appliance like an oven or stove to heat your home," Mankato Public Safety Deputy Director, Jeff Bengtson said.
While this year had more lit bulbs than the last few holiday seasons...there were no fire related injuries this year nor were there any last year.
