The Mankato West boys basketball team is over .500 after 11 games this season thanks to the play of three seniors.

KEYC News 12 Sports Rob Clark has more on why Dondre Spann, Michael Sathoff, and Griffin Corbett are this week's KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athletes of the Week.

The Scarlet basketball team is clicking this season with senior point guard Griffin Corbett orchestrating the show  in his first year as a starter.

"Griffin in my opinion is the key to our offense, he's a great floor general, he's outspoken, he does a great job of getting the guys where they need to be on offense and defense. I think I need to get the ball to him more, he's a good scorer, distributor, just an all–around player," said Jeremy Drexler, Mankato West head coach.

"It's been fun watching him develop because last year he had a few injuries that held him back, but he has a lot of potential and he's been owning up to the potential that he has," said Spann, prep athlete.

Corbett finds a way to score but what's most impressive is his ability to distribute the rock.

"I've got a ton of playmakers on my team, I know that if I can get them the ball, they'll put it in the hoop. It's nice to have other guys on your team that can take the pressure off of you, give them the ball, and they'll do something good with it," said Corbett, prep athlete.

Two of the main playmakers on this West squad are fellow seniors, Dondre Spann and Michael Sathoff

Standing nearly 7–feet tall Sathoff is a presence in the post.

"He's a huge defensive threat to start with, and on offense, he's a good finisher, and he's worked hard on that," said Spann.

"I think my post work has gotten better throughout the years, and also I think I've gotten better playing defense on the perimeter," said Sathoff.

With defenses routinely collapsing on Sathoff down low.

It opens up scoring opportunities for Spann.

"He's probably one of our best two defenders, he usually is going to guard the other team's best player, offensively he uses that athleticism, and size to his advantage. He's an all–around player, and a great kid," said Drexler.

The seniors' playmaking abilities are why Corbett, Sathoff, and Spann are this week's KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athletes of the week.
