Red Cross Says Inclement Weather Cancelled 150 Blood Drives
It is National Blood Donor Month and the American Red Cross said donations have dropped tremendously.
Southwest MN American Red Cross Executive Director Leah Pockrandt said for southern Minnesota severe winter weather conditions led to the cancellation of more than 150 blood drives.
"There's an urgent need for donors to come forward, of all blood types to give blood and platelet donations, due to an extreme shortage," said Pockrandt.
She said inclement weather, flu season and hectic holiday schedules are contributing to the shortage of blood and platelet donations.
Pockrandt said more than 5,500 blood and platelet donations went uncollected and they hope people will visit their many drives this month.
