Earlier this month, Mankato West's Emily Veroeven eclipsed the thousand point milestone while helping the Scarlets to a winning record.
KEYC News 12 Sports Rob Clark has more on why Veroeven is our KEYC Scheels All Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
"It's a cool thing, but I'm just so happy to be here with all my teammates, and them supporting me. It's been really fun," said Veroeven, prep athlete.
"Including Emily, there are only eight girls that have reached the thousand point milestone at Mankato West. That's a great way to cap off her career and to be able to say that she's done that. She'll be the first to say that she couldn't have done it without her teammates as well, we're really happy for her to do that," said Julia Battern, Mankato West head coach.
Senior Emily Veroeven is averaging over 11 points per game this season and is always keeping an eye out for the best scoring option.
"She's a good leader, she's been a captain for two years. She's just so positive with her teammates on and off the court. On the court, she's our point guard, and has great court vision. She is a good scorer, but just as often, she's looking to make the pass to her open teammates, and she does a great job of that," said Battern.
"I try really hard to get other people open and make them able to score too. I feel like I help move the ball around a little bit faster," said Veroeven.
Her leadership and scoring ability are why Emily Veroeven is our KEYC Scheels All Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
