The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys basketball team is on a four game winning streak thanks in part to junior play-maker, Jake Kettner.
KEYC News 12 Sports Rob Clark tells us why Kettner is our KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
MVL's Jake Kettner is arguably the team's best defender and is averaging over 20 points per game this season with the ability to beat teams from anywhere on the floor.
"It's almost like night and day for me. I was a completely different player as a freshman. I think the biggest thing for me was getting in the weight room to play better defense and finish at the rim," said Jake Kettner, prep athlete of the week.
The two–year starter passed the thousand point milestone earlier this year, but it's not all about scoring for the Charger, whether it's a no–look or full court pass Kettner always finds a way to distribute the ball.
"A lot of that comes with experience, and I know I worry a lot of people like coach especially, and there are times when those passes don't make it there, but I try to be as consistent as possible," said Kettner.
"Every once in a while, he comes up with a play where I go wow, where did this come from. But there are times to where it's like a little less backyard, little less playground, let's get to the fundamentals, and take it up strong. Many times I don't give him enough credit, I'd pat a guy on a back and cheer them on for a play they make. When Jake does it, I kind of expect those things, it's a compliment to him on his talents and ability, but I realize he also needs those pat on the backs too," said Craig Morgan, MVL head coach.
Kettner's epic assists and ability to score are why he's our KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
