MANKATO, Minn. -

Alternative educators from across the state are gathering in Mankato to learn new teaching tools.

Wednesday kicked off the 35th annual Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs conference.

This includes charter schools, learning centers and alternative schools.

The goal is to provide educators with new resources they can take back to the classroom.

"We try to get as many sessions that are hands–on or materials that people walk away with so Monday morning they can go in their class and start doing something they learned today," conference chair Chris Bodick said.

The conference continues through Friday.
