Sen. Tina Smith Forms Ag Advisory Group

Posted: Updated:

Senator Tina Smith (D) is forming a group of advisers for the upcoming Farm Bill.

The Ag Advisory Group will consist of 20 experts from across Minnesota. From Southern Minnesota are Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap and Region 9 Executive Director Nicole Griensewic Mickelson.

Along with ag leaders, Smith recruited energy, conservation and nutrition experts.

The group will provide the senator with expertise on ag issues around the state ahead of the new Farm Bill.

"When you think about it, the Farm Bill and Minnesota agriculture touches almost every aspect of life in Minnesota, so it's a big, interesting, diverse group and I'm sure they'll give me very good advice," Smith said.

The group hopes to convene in the coming weeks. The senate will begin discussing the Farm Bill this spring.
