Cheerleaders were chanting "Go Mavericks" and rallying support for their own cause on Sunday.

Local high school students joined MSU students and MSU cheer alumni in their first Stunt Like a Maverick Fundraiser.

MSU Cheer flyer Carly Ferris said Sunday's stunt clinic was put together in an effort to raise money for new mats.

"I think one mat is $1,000 and we're trying to get a full set which is 9 plus straps, so $10,000 would be like the ultimate goal," said Ferris. "Whatever mats we can get will be awesome."

Ferris said the stunt clinic also gives high school cheerleaders the opportunity to get comfortable with stunts before next month's tryouts at MSU.
