Waseca girls basketball star, Madison Gehloff, is chasing program history this season as the junior closes in on the all-time rebounds record.
KEYC News 12 Sports tells us why Gehloff is our KEYC Scheels All Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
Madison Gehloff is on a tear this season averaging 18 points per game and also topped thousand point milestone in her career.
“It just felt really good, I was really happy with it that it happened, and all my past teammates, current teammates, parents. It felt really good, I feel like it gave them something with all the support they’ve given me and pushed me to do my best,” said Gehloff, prep athlete of the week.
“Madison is a fun player to have, she makes everyone around her better, and therefore the teams she’s played on have been very successful. She’s unselfish, humble, does a lot of things. She’s an exceptional rebounder, a good defender, she shares the ball. She’s a key ingredient to our success,” said Joan Conway, Waseca head coach.
The guard is a three year starter with an ability to beat defenses in a number of ways.
“I’m a lot more comfortable with the ball, and seeing the court better. I think my shots developed a little better than what it was my eighth grade year. Also, driving to the lane and finishing, and being more assertive, and aggressive with the ball,” said Gehloff.
“She’s probably known for that mid-range jump shot, Madison can also hit the three, she’s gotten better at this year. One thing that’s really improved this year is she’s driving to the basket more, and being more effective getting in there, and stronger finishing at the hoop which has helped all aspects of her game offensively,” said Conway.
Gehloff still has another year left at Waseca but plans to play college basketball once her high school career wraps up.
Her dominance in all aspects of the game is why Madison Gehloff is our KEYC Scheels All Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
