Ash Wednesday: The Beginning Of The Lent Season
Today marks the first day of Lent for many Christians around the world.
People all over the area had ashes placed on their foreheads to celebrate Ash Wednesday. The ashes come from palms that were used from the previous year's Palm Sunday. The palms are burned to collect ash that are then crushed into a fine powder and used the following year for the religious holiday.
Lent is a 40-day season leading up to Easter.
