The scam comes as a phone call from Microsoft or Apple that advises the victim that there is some type of problem with their computer and then asks for access to it using a "remote log in" tool. The victims then receive a very large bill for the service. In some instances the scammers may send large amounts of money back to the victim's account and ask for it to be sent back in money orders or gift cards. The scammers may also ask the victim to log into bank accounts to access the user names and passwords. The criminal scammers sound very authentic and are very persistent with their phone calls.
