Prep Athlete: New Ulm's Connor Foley
The improvement in the New Ulm boys basketball team can be directly attributed to Eagle standout, Connor Foley. Foley causes headaches for opposing teams on both ends of the court even if his team doesn't get the W in the end.
KEYC News 12 Sports Rob Clark has more on why Foley is our KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
Senior forward Connor Foley is leading the Eagles in almost every statistical category this season and is one of the players teammates turn to in close games.
"I have to capitalize for being the senior, being a leader, and that way everyone can pick up off my energy," said Connor Foley, prep athlete of the week.
"I think he's been such a good role model to the younger kids, and it's fun to see that on a day to day basis how he's picking guys off the ground, and it's fun to see how he's translating that into his daily leadership roles in front of the younger kids," said Steve Foley, New Ulm head coach.
Foley's a dominant athlete for the Eagles, holding the school's all–time boys basketball career scoring record with over 1200 points.
In football, the tight end broke a state record with six touchdown catches in one game and is taking those skills up north to Bemidji State next season.
"Football and basketball are always going to be way up there whether I watch them or play them, I love them both," said Connor Foley.
"It'll be fun, my wife even said it'll be weird seeing him play his last basketball game, because we thought he'd play college basketball, that was his first love, this last football season got his enthusiasm up. It's his choice, and Bemidji has a nice football program, and it'll be nice to see him play at the next level," said Steve Foley.
His playmaking ability and leadership on the floor are why Connor Foley is our KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
