The Cedar Mountain Comfrey boy’s basketball team is eyeing a return to the Section 2-A title game, at the center of everything the Cougars do  is senior Dylan Hillesheim.

KEYC News 12 Sports Rob Clark tells us why Hillesheim is our KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.

From the moment Dylan Hillesheim walked into the CMC basketball program coaches could tell he’d become a special player.

“It’s kind of crazy that I had Dylan playing some B-squad for me as an 8th grader. It’s kind of funny, his first game as an eighth grader, he went up to try and dunk the ball. I was like wow, this kid could be special. As the years have gone by, he’s gotten better, he leads us in scoring, and he’s our leader on the floor as well, rebounding, steals, he does a lot for us,” said Brian Pendleton, CMC head coach.

“I attack strong, I can shoot the ball well when I want, just basically I’m a strong player overall,” said Dylan Hillesheim, prep athlete of the week.

Last year as a junior, the forward eclipsed a thousand points in his high school career during the sub-section finals.

“It meant a lot to me, it tells me that I’ve been working hard, scoring the basket. I have good teammates that will give me the ball when I’m open, it felt really good,” said Hillesheim.

This season, the dynamic scorer’s taken his game to another level   with a 45 point game  and a 39 point performance all in the same week.

“I just attacked the hoop more, shot more, and it all went in, and felt good,” said Hillesheim.

At the other end of the floor, Hillesheim is a game-changer with highlight blocks  and steals.

“He’s our number one defensive player, in addition to having to score the ball for us, he always takes the other team’s best player too. He’s an important role to us in that manner,” said Pendleton.

Hillesheim’s ability to be a force on offense and defense is why he’s our KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
