Extended Winter Potentially Effecting Farmers' Insurance
Recent snowfall has delayed the ability for crops to begin the growing process.
Farmers looking for coverage to protect their crops from further or potential delay still have time before the deadline to plant corn (May 31st) and soybeans (June 10th).
Most growers have already chosen an insurance plan before March 15th.
But the uncertainty of generating money has local farmers and businesses looking for solutions.
Agri-Business Insurance Services (ABIS) vice president Travis Stewart said "Things like single peril weather insurance that would cover against excessive moisture, lack of moisture, lack of growing degrees, or excessive growing degree units. They would actually be able to cover some of the increase financial risks that are occurring to these very weather conditions we have today."
