Memory kits are now available for check out inside the Saint Peter Public Library.

The Mankato Clinic Foundation funded a grant to provide these aids for individuals who struggle with dementia or Alzheimer's.

Inside them are instructions along with puzzles, flashcards and books.

Community members will be able to check one of the 15 kits out for three weeks, just like they would a book.

There are three different colors depending on the stage of memory loss that contain different materials; early stage dementia (blue), middle activity during middle stage dementia (red)  and low activity stage dementia (green).

Assistant program supervisor the city of Saint Peter Gabriela Roemhildt said "Instead of 'oh my gosh, what am I going to do?' or 'how do I talk to grandpa?' You have a focus, you have a format. It's something that the pieces can work with one another so that the interaction becomes ultimately positive and you can spark new memories."

Not only will are these kits available, but on May 8th, a memory café will be opening next door in room 215 of the community center to offer snacks, games and a social atmosphere for those dealing with these mental battles.

Hours will run from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month.
