River's Edge Hospital in St. Peter is adding 30,000 square feet onto its existing facility as well as renovating over 30,000 square feet of existing hospital space. The bed count will increase from 17 to 25.  Cash for the project came from the USDA's Rural Development Program in the form of low interest loans.
George Rohrich, CEO of the hospital, said:  "We've been working, designing developing this project for over two years.  So now, we're actually moving from paper and office work to, you saw us probably scooping dirt this morning in our groundbreaking ceremony."
Todd Prafke, city administrator of St. peter, mentioned:  "Many people know River's Edge is owned by the city, and we have such a great team that's worked on this and are excited for this really being a platform to provide more intense and additional services in the community, so we're excited about that."
The construction and renovations should be all wrapped up by June of 2020.
