North Mankato's police chief is retiring later this summer.

Chief Chris Boyer's retirement is effective June 1.

Boyer has been in law enforcement for nearly 30 years.

He joined the North Mankato police department as a patrol officer in 2000, and became chief in 2008.

City Manager John Harrenstein says in a statement that Boyer has “helped grow and modernize the police department via upgrades in technology, an emphasis on emergency management and overall accountability.”

The city says the search for a new police chief is already underway.
