Washington Elementary students took part in the second annual "Fourth Grade Book Project" on Monday.

Multiple fourth graders walked to the front of a room, and read lines from Shel Silverstein's book, "Where the Sidewalk Ends."

The Olseth Family Foundation gave a grant to Greater Mankato Area United Way, to provide books to schools throughout the region.

Foundation Member Jon Olseth said the idea is to promote literacy with United Way.

" Give them the opportunity to share in this case poetry, with one another to promote reading and community, " said Olseth.

" So hopefully they can go with their friends and families and share these poems."

The project began in April and will end May 23. The program delivered books to about 26 schools in the region.
