Mankato City Council Moves Forward With HyVee Store Near MSU Campus
MANKATO, MINN - Mankato's city council heard public comment on a potential new Hy–Vee location in Mankato,
A proposed Hy–Vee "Fast and Fresh" store would be developed on Stadium Road and Heron Drive in Mankato.
The new convenience store is just one of three of its kind and includes plans to include six gas pumps, a coffee shop and brick–oven pizza area.
Hy–Vee says this design is twice as large as the current Hy–Vee convenience stores due to the added amenities.
The city planning commission recommended adoption of the rezoning and development resolutions in late April and city engineers don't expect any significant increase in traffic.
"Frequently, a lot of customers walk to Kwik Trip, they walk to CVS, they’re going to walk here too." said Jeff Johnson, Mankato's Director of Public Works.
A technical evaluation panel made up of local and state water and soil conservation agencies is also recommending approval with certain conditions to maintain and oversee the protected wetlands on the site.
City staff says Hy–Vee will be financially and operationally responsible for the wetland oversight and will submit reports to the city for five years.
All resolutions related to the Hy–Vee store were approved by council Monday and plans will move forward.
