NORTH MANKATO, Minn. - A new police chief has been named to North Mankato Police Department.

Ross Gullickson was announced as police chief at a press conference Friday afternoon.

Gullickson previously was a lieutenant at the Three Rivers District Department in Plymouth, Minn.

However he's not new to the area. Gullickson received his law enforcement degree from MSU and began his career with the Mankato Department of Public Safety in 1995.

"I've always said throughout my career, it takes a community to police a community," Gullickson said. "Therefore, it's incumbent upon us as the police to make sure we are proactively engaging our citizens and our stakeholders to bring them along for the policing mission."

The search for a new North Mankato police chief began after longtime Chief Chris Boyer announced his retirement back in May.

Lieutenant Dan Forster served as interim chief during the selection process.

Gullickson's first day on the job will be August 6.
