MANKATO, MN - Faculty from MSU gathered in the center of campus to rally for unions.

The rally comes as the Supreme Court prepares to issue a decision in the Janus case.
'Janus v. AFSCME Council 31' involves whether workers can be required to pay union dues if they're not a member.
Unions and supporters argue that without the requirement, workers would enjoy benefits negotiated by the union without having to pay for them.

“The case would strip away the responsibility for people to pay their fair share of dues but yet we would still have to serve them as their bargain lead,” said Faculty Association President Mary Visser.

Opponents of the requirement say they have a free-speech right not to pay the union that represents all employees, not just its members, in collective bargaining.
