Staying Cool On a Budget
It's no surprise many will be turning to their air conditioning for relief this weekend.
But how do you stay comfortable without racking up your energy bill?
Xcel Energy says home cooling can account for about half of a summertime electric bill.
The company says customers can easily save $100 by just raising your thermostat setting from 72 to 78 degrees.
They also recommend installing a programmable thermostat that raises the setting when the house is empty.
You can also save by running washing machines and dishwashers after the heat of the day to help keep the house cooler and reduce the strain of the local grid.
