MANKATO, MN - Do you want a closer look at how Mankato's Department of Public Safety actually works?  If so, you may want to join Mankato's Public Safety Citizen Academy.
The free eight week course lets you interact with city staff and offers an inside look into how Mankato police respond to emergencies, like auto extrication, crime scene investigations and rescue operations.

The course is available to residents who are at least 16 years old.
Todd Miller, director of Mankato Public Safety, said:  "We found that it works very well when we have a cross section of our community, because this is an educational opportunity where we can help the community to understand what public safety is like in Mankato."
Classes are held Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning September 6 at the Public Safety Center.  Applications must be submitted online or at the Public Safety Center by Friday, August 17.
