MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The president of the University of Minnesota has set a date for his retirement.

In a letter released today, Eric Kaler announced that he will leave the presidency on July 1st, 2019.  Kaler mentioned that he feels the university would benefit from having a fresh perspective from whoever assumes the role.

After he retires from the position, he will stay on-board in an advisory role and return to a faculty position in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
