MANKATO, MINN - Mayo Clinic's ambulance service has a new downtown home base.

Gold Cross is now occupying Mankato's old fire station on State Street.

The building has been repurposed to provide space for ambulance storage, training and education space.

Gold Cross says emergency response times will be cut down due to the more centralized location of the ambulance service.

"In Mankato certainly the largest concentration of calls is in the kind of downtown central business district  area and the city had this kind of building available and so it worked out very well," said Kristofer Keltgen, Manager of Operations for Gold Cross.

Gold Cross is a part of Mayo Clinic's medical transport program and services the greater Mankato area.
