Four players from the Mankato East/Loyola girls hockey team are just one day away from competing in the Hockey Night in Boston Girls Showcase.

Earlier this week, we caught up with the athletes before they took off for Massachusetts.

"It's a great opportunity to showcase all your talents, and going out on the East Coast where people from all over the country are going to be."

Evelyn Johnson, Kaylee Eykyn, Madison Davis and Sydney Kanstrup are all representing Southern Minnesota and the Cougars this week at the Essex Sports Center in Middleton in front of plenty of fans and college scouts.

"It's pretty amazing, it's so much fun to see what their type of hockey is compared to ours, and just mixing it together."

"I think it represents Mankato really well. I think in the past a lot of people from Mankato, or more southern Minnesota hockey doesn't get the best rep. It's cool that we're going up there, showing that we're a good group of players. We show that we deserve to be going out there, so it should be fun."

These four compete with a team called CADP up by the Twin Cities where players from all over the state make up the squad.

"It helps a lot because usually in Mankato there aren't too many camps where you can go to and get new exposure with new girls and a bunch of coaches. It's fun because a lot of college athletes with come and help out with the camp. Lenny is a great coach, it's a lot of fun, builds us both mentally and physically."

"We do get better, it makes us come closer, that way we can show what we have done throughout the camp, we can give it back to East, show more during practices."

This team from Minnesota is one of 14 taking the ice during the showcase.

Their first game is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:45.
