Hometown Business Connection: Design and Wine
In Partnership with Connect Business Magazine.
Wine and craft lovers can combine their two interests right in the heart of lower North Mankato.
Laura Doyen was inspired to open her Wine and Design workshop in North Mankato when a family visit included a trip to an interactive art event in Rochester.
"At that point, my brother was watching my daughter and my sister–in–law took me over to a paint and sip over there and I thought 'Oh, Mankato could really use this!" said Doyen.
Passion for art runs in her family and she was excited about the opportunity to share it with the Mankato community.
"It's just growing considerably in the arts here and I think it's the perfect time to get in here and offer it to people who want to dabble in it a little bit." said Doyen.
Through a guided workshop, artists and amateurs can paint or literally string together their own work of art.
"If you're afraid of crafting, don't be," said Doyen. "This process is so painless and in the end I promise you will not walk out of here unhappy and it will be something that you're proud to show off."
As the name states, designing crafts isn't the only part of the business plan.
"You can bring alcoholic beverages into our facility, you have to bring your own cups, you have to provide your own openers," said Doyen. "We do card, but we have gotten to that portion where you can bring in a beverage that you like."
Design and Wine hosts both public and private events as well as fundraisers for local causes, with a minimum of six people required for a private party.
