With the first weekend of deer hunting opener under our belts, the DNR is releasing preliminary data on the deer harvest so far.
Officials are estimating a total of just over 62,000 deer were harvested across Minnesota through Sunday. Preliminary numbers show about 36,000 of them were bucks.
So far numbers are down compared to last year's opening weekend, which saw over 73,000 deer harvested.
Last year's total deer harvest sat at 167,500.
Officials say the annual harvest is up over 8-percent since 2014, according to the DNR.
