Bloomington-based Jostens, which produces class rings, yearbooks and other school memorabilia is sold by its parent company, Newell Brands.
Jostens started in Owatonna and it still has a sizable presence there and in Eagan.
The $1.3 billion sale to Platinum Equity is part of an effort by Jostens' parent company to simplify its business portfolio.
Jostens is known for its school products. It's also the maker of Super Bowl rings, reeling in a revenue of $768 million in 2017.
Newell Brands has also sold its Pure Fishing business, a maker of fishing tackle and related products, to another investment firm, Sycamore Equity, for $1.3 billion.
