The DNR has scheduled a special deer hunt this month to limit the spread of chronic wasting disease in wild deer.

The hunt is scheduled for last Friday, Dec. 21 through Sunday, Dec. 23rd and Friday, Dec. 28th through Sunady, Dec. 30th in portions of Olmstead, Winona and Fillmore counties south of Interstate 90.

The hunt is open to residents and non-residents and there is no bag limit.

Cross-tagging, or party hunting, is allowed, and the antler point restriction is not in effect.

The goal is to lower local deer populations as much as possible in hopes of eliminating chronic wasting disease.
